What are Cron Jobs?

A 'Cron Job' is computer jargon for a 'regularly repeating task'.

Unix based computers have a software program called the Cron Daemon which runs constantly in and does repeated tasks as often as you specify. Note that the word "Daemon" denotes a program that runs silently in the background without the user usually being aware of it.

For instance, if you wanted to send an email reminder to yourself about your big company meeting that occurs once every 3 months, you could set up a Cron Job to do exactly that. Another example would be, if you had a music website and you wanted to automatically update the latest music listings from another site - you could use a Cron Job to do this for you.
Note: the latter example is real and is happening on our clients website: http://www.jazzrendezvous.co.za/chart.php
